The John Penne Kamp Coral Reef State Park at Key Largo is a must-do attraction, with its Ranger-led tours through air plants, bamboo, wild tamarind, gumbo-limbo, and diving excursions. The best diving excursion for some is to see the underwater sculpture called The Christ of the Abyss, an eight-and-a-half foot bronze sculpture of Jesus copied from the one on the coast of Genoa in Italy.
Florida Keys Wild Bird Rehabilitation Centre is for wild injured birds, which was started by a local vet. His love for the local turkeys, vultures, great blue herons, brown pelicans and many more species never seen before by many of us, inspired him to save their lives.
In Key West see Hemingway House where he wrote To Have and Have Not.
Mallory Square in Key West is a waterfront with lovely shops. By night it is a series of street performers such as fire eaters, singers, and dancers who enthrall the tourists.
Visit museums such as the Key West Butterfly and Nature Conservatory. The Wreckers’ Museum is fun for the family, devoted to shipwrecks and discovered treasure, m’hearties.
There is plenty for children to do such as the ghost tours on the Conch Tour Train.
The Keys Beaches are not really their strong point, but Anne’s Beach has clean shallow waters and a pretty walk through the mangroves.
Swimming with Dolphins is specialised at The Key Largo Centre where you can book a ‘dolphin encounter’, which is a structured swim, where you meet early, and are given thorough information before you are introduced to a dolphin. Structured dolphin swims are considered kinder on the dolphin than unstructured swims.
Long Key is for people who want to get away from the crowds on the rest of the Keys. It is a small island, which is underdeveloped. People like the Long Key Recreation Centre.
